Messages of Resistance: A Visual Art Workshop

In this workshop Kimmortal will be leading a visual art making session where participants will be invited to create an art piece of hand drawn lettering that expresses a message of solidarity and resistance. In the two hours, Kimmortal will talk about their current practise and creative curiosities, the group participants will be invited to share their own thoughts. Then Kim will share some lettering techniques and art/design suggestions, there will be a group brainstorm of a list of messages of resistance and there will be ample time to creatively work. Participants can share on social media if comfortable!

Kimmortal is a queer nonbinary Filipinx musician and visual artist. They are a second-generation settler based on unceded Coast Salish territory. They graduated from UBC in visual art and art history in 2016 and have worked as a musician, theatre performer, and arts-based youth facilitator. Kimmortal released their most recent album “X marks the Swirl” in 2019 which was longlisted for a Polaris and recognized as top 19 albums of 2019 via CBC. Kimmortal’s interest is in the intersection of storytelling, artivism, and spirituality.
