Small Press Showcase

Dates:
Thursday, October 1, 2020, 5:00 pmto Tuesday, October 13, 2020, 5:00 pm

Open Space and the RISO Collective are pleased to present  the Small Press Showcase, a celebration of local independent print publishing projects.

From October 1-13, print works will be featured in the Ministry of Casual Living's Odeon Window Gallery on Yates Street. Featured zines, chapbooks, art books, limited edition prints, and comics from regional artists are available to purchase: all proceeds will be directed to the artists (or an organization of their choosing). Visit Open Space’s online store here to buy a copy of your own!

The showcase marks the second year of Open Space's Small Press Fest programming, which works to support and foster community around regional print publishing. This showcase is also a part of Vancouver Art Book Fair's Art Book Month, a series of events hosted in Vancouver and  beyond by artists, curators, collectives, and institutions creating and presenting art books. Learn more about the RISO Collective.

Featuring work by: Nicole Neidhardt, SHOP TALK TRADE  COMICS, The Pandora Arts Collective, Matty Cervantes /  Global PAX Collective, Weird Load Projects, PRINT Victoria  Society of Print Artists, Open Space, FLUX Gallery,  lemonbabypress, moonsnail press, Soft queer journaling,  The Sapphic Printing Press, empty head zine, Leah Anthony,  Kaylyn Olynyk, Reid Urchison, Carol Auld, and Kerri  Flannigan.

The Small Press Showcase is being held on Lekwungen territories. Open Space and the RISO Collective gratefully  acknowledge the original stewards of this land who have  been tending to it since time immemorial, and whose care continues to this day. As we share these projects, we are reflecting on the many ways print publishing can be used to reach across time and space and form grounded community networks. By celebrating the richness of these relational systems, we work to resist the cultural and physical dislocation of settler-colonial capitalism.

Accessibility info: The window gallery is located in Odeon Alley, the square between Stir it Up and Milkcow at 764 Yates. It will be available to view 24/7 during the period of the showcase, and is lit up at night.
