Feedback:
Curtis Talwst Santiago & Dre Gutierrez Reyes
Dates:
July 13-24
Feedback is a virtual studio residency that bridges the geographical distance between Victoria-based artist Dre Gutierrez Reyes and Munich-based artist Curtis Talwst Santiago. As covid-19 continues to impact the ways we are able to work together, the virtual studio space connects these two artists through livestream and enables them to inhabit the Open Space gallery as a shared production space. The virtual studio is not open to the public, but may feature public activations. Embracing the organic process of collaboration, events and presentations of the artists’ work will be advertised as they develop throughout the month of July.

Dre Gutierrez Reyes
Andrea Gutiérrez Reyes is an Afro-Latina visual artist and illustrator currently residing on the traditional territory of the Lekwungen people. As a child she was captivated by the full colour comic strips in the Sunday papers and the Archie Comic collection at her grandmother’s house. This led to her life-long love of drawing she often describes as a combination of her spiritual practice and interest in quantum physics with the aesthetic influences from 70s modern interior design, stylist Misa Hylton-Brim, and Michoacana folk art. Andrea creates digital art pieces with bold and vibrant colour palettes; during the lockdown she began experimenting with drawing pencils, water-colour, acrylics and ink. Some of her favourite artists include Kerry James Marshal, Lezley Saar, Lois Mailou Jones, Faith Ringold and Robert Rauschenberg. When she is not creating, Andrea enjoys going for runs, trying new restaurants with her fiancé, and spending time with her friends. Andrea’s work can be found on her Instagram @suburbiakills, and on her website, www.suburbiakills.com.
