Embodied Conflict Resolution and Loving Justice: Virtual Residency with Kai Cheng Thom

Artist:
Kai Cheng Thom

Dates:
Saturday, January 16, 2021, 12:00 pm to Saturday, January 30, 2021, 6:00 pm

This January, Open Space is excited to host writer, performer, and community worker Kai Cheng Thom in Open Space's first virtual writer's residency! Extending from January 16-January 30, 2021, the residency aims to support Kai Cheng Thom's critical work articulating visions for conflict resolution and Transformative Justice in our communities.

The residency will both offer time for Kai Cheng Thom to work on her current writing project and to share her work with the public in the form of a reading marking the end of the residency.

From Kai Cheng:
I'll be working on an illustrated essay called "What Is Loving Justice?" which is an expansion of the Loving Justice Framework that I've been developing over the past year. Loving Justice is a somatic and ethical lens on Transformative Justice, and is situated within the lineage of queer, femme, and racialized activists and thinkers in the fields of abolition, healing, and conflict transformation. I hope that Loving Justice will assist social justice and queer communities in grappling with the practical and spiritual challenges of holding each other with grace and compassion alongside accountability and justice.

The reading will be held online on Saturday, January 30th from 6-7:30pm. Attendance is free but requires registration; sign up to attend the event here. Please note the reading will be held on Zoom; video, audio, chat functions will be disabled for participants throughout the reading, but there will be an opportunity to ask Kai Cheng questions in the second half of the event.
